Amazon has announced two new versions of its HomeKit Secure Router compatible Eero router with support for Wi-Fi 6 and Zigbee. The new line of routers includes the Eero 6 and the Eero Pro 6 mesh Wi-Fi routers, and Eero 6 Wi-Fi extenders.

The standard Eero 6 offers one of each of the two bands. The Eero Pro 6 is also a tri-band router, offering two 5GHz bands and a single band which is 2.4GHz. Both the Eero 6 and Eero Pro 6 feature two Ethernet ports and a USB-C port.

While the Zigbee connectivity is useful, it only works with Alexa compatible devices and is no use for HomeKit users.

As with the previous eero devices, the new eero 6 routers will support HomeKit Secure Router. The feature that was first announced at WWDC last year can restrict HomeKit devices from connecting to the internet. In addtion, users can also firewall HomeKit accessories to prevent them from communicating with other devices on the home network.

In terms of price, the  Eero 6 system starts at $129.99, while Eero Pro 6 starts at $229.99. The Eero 6 extended retails for $89.99 each. All three devices are available to preorder from Amazon starting today, and will ship on the 2nd November 2020. However no word on EU or UK launch at this stage.

  1. I have the Internet providers modem in the basement wit Cat6 cable going to Apple Base Station in the family. From the Apple wifi router I have a Cat5e cable going to my 2nd floor cinnected with another Apple base station wifi router. Both routers have 3 ports connected to non mobile devices like Apple TV, Macs and Audio Streamers. Will a mesh system improve my already awesome internet experience? Just wondering

  2. eero 6 doesn’t support Homekit. I purchased it to replace my previous eero router. Found out that it did not support HomeKit. Thanks to Amazon wanting to compete with Apple with Alexa. SMH.

    • I can confirm this. I have an eero 6 Pro and the HomeKit option appears to be removed from the app. If it’s still available for prior eero models, I don’t know why it’s not available for the new eero 6 Pro.

I switched to eero from an airport time capsule, specifically because of HomeKit. Not sure why eero is touted to support it.
