Aqara to release matter update in December and New M3 Hub in 2023

Aqara today announced that Matter support for its existing and new device will arrive in December 2022. Additionally, the company will release its P2 Thread devices in early 2023 and a new Aqara M3 hub that will support Thread.

Aqara users will first gain access to Matter in December 2022 via the Hub M2 through an OTA update, which will first allow more than 40 existing Aqara Zigbee devices to become compatible with Matter. Then other Aqara hubs, including the Hub M1S/M1S Gen 2, Hub E1, Camera Hub G3, and Camera Hub G2H Pro, will also receive updates in the following months. Previously, Aqara announced that two new sensors, the Door and Window Sensor P2 and the Motion and Light Sensor P2 with Thread. These new Thread devices were announced at CES 2022 and billed to arrive in the second half of 2022. However, Aqara has said these will now arrive in early 2023. Also in 2023, the company will release the next-generation smart home hub, the Hub M3, with multi-protocol support. This means that the new hub will act as a Thread Border Router and a Matter Controller and Commissioner. Which can directly connect and manage Thread and Matter-compatible smart home devices. Aqara also plans to open the Aqara Home app to support third-party Matter devices.
