Eufy, the smart home division of Anker, has released its latest security camera, the Eufycam S3 Pro. It offers clear night vision, radar-based motion sensing to reduce false alarms, and 24/7 recording when wired. It is also Eufys entry back into the Apple smart home ecosystem with support for HomeKit Secure Video.
The S3 Pro features a new colour night vision technology called MaxColor Vision, which promises “day-like footage even in pitch-dark conditions without the need for a spotlight.” According to Eufy, this is powered by a 1/1.8-inch CMOS sensor, an F1.0 aperture, and an AI-driven image signal processor. Recording is at 4K resolution locally stored on the HomeBase S380, that offers 16TB of storage. It is worth noting that users of HomeKit Secure Video can only record at 1080p due to the restrictions in HomeKit.
Although the colour night vision doesn’t require a spotlight, the S3 Pro includes a motion-activated spotlight. Eufy claims this adapts to real-time lighting conditions for optimal image quality, and the light can be manually adjusted through the app when viewing a live stream.
The S3 Pro also introduces dual motion detection, which combines radar sensing with passive infrared (PIR) technology. This should improve the accuracy of detecting people and significantly reduce false alerts, such as mistaking a tree blowing in the wind for a person.
Powered by a 13,000mAh battery, the S3 Pro is said to provide up to a year of battery life. It also features a built-in solar panel for extended power. The S3 Pro’s solar panel is 50% larger than that of the S3, and Eufy claims just one hour of sunlight per day is enough to keep the camera fully charged. Additionally, the camera comes with an external solar panel, allowing installation in shaded areas while still maintaining power.
After experiencing significant security and privacy breaches in 2022, Eufy has now released an updated list of privacy commitments on its website. In response to these issues, the company collaborated with cybersecurity expert Ralph Echemendia, who conducted an evaluation last year. According to Eufy, the assessment confirmed that the company has successfully met all proactive and reactive security standards.
The EufyCam S3 Pro is available now in the US as a two-camera bundle with one HomeBase S380 for $549.99. The Eufycam S3 Pro will be available in the UK and across Europe starting 10th October.
