Eve Home, the previously exclusive HomeKit smart home device maker, has announced that the promised matter update for the Eve Energy, Eve Door & Window and Eve Motion will start rolling out today. These devices will be the very first Thread products available for Matter on the market and make the company’s devices compatible with SmartThings to start.
When customers decide to upgrade to Matter, they’ll continue to enjoy the seamless experience in the Eve and Apple Home apps. Which means you can enjoy all the automations and controls with the Apple Home ecosystem. But once you’ve upgraded your devices to Matter you can’t migrate them back to HomeKit exclusive devices.
How to update your Eve devices to Matter.
- A Thread Border Router capable Home Hub like a HomePod mini, Apple TV 4K (2nd gen.) and Apple TV 4K (3rd gen. 128 GB) and updated to the latest tvOS version.
- Upgrading the firmware on an Eve device to Matter requires an iPhone or iPad running iOS/iPadOS 16.2 or later.
- Apply to enroll in the Early Access Program by completing the form here.
- Once enrolled, users will receive an email from Eve with Test Flight access to the firmware update over the coming days.
Existing owners of these devices can sign up for the Eve Matter Early Access Program, and customers who don’t already own these devices can purchase them at Amazon or at the Apple Store, and update them, using an iPhone or iPad running iOS 16.2.
