Statement received from Linksys PR today reads;
Inaccurate verbiage on timing and availability of Linksys HomeKit-enabled routers was shared on our website today. We are excited to bring these features to market soon…
First spotted by HomeKitNews, Linksys will start rolling out firmware update in the next several days. Once your system updates and the next time you open the Linksys app. The app will invite you to connect it to HomeKit in the Home app. If you have automatic updates turned off, you will need to perform a manual update.
Once the Velop is updated, users will get firewall like protection for HomeKit accessories. This will give the user a greater level of control over devices via the following controls;
- No Restriction: The HomeKit accessory can connect to any internet service or local device without restrictions.
- Automatic: This setting allows the accessory to connect to an automatic list of manufacturer-approved internet services and local devices.
- Restrict to Home: Only allows the accessory to connect to your home hub. This could prevent firmware updates or remote control via the devices native app.
In terms of HomeKit router support, Linksys has confirmed the following devices will support Apples smart Home platform. You can checkout the devices below along with a link to Amazon with discounts at the moment.
Although Linksys is rolling out HomeKit router support to its Velop range, they do not include the newer MX5 and MX10 in the firmware update.
