Ecovacs Deebot X8 Omni HomeKit update

Apple’s latest iOS 18.4 update brings a notable improvement to its smart home ecosystem—robot vacuums are now supported in the Apple Home app via the Matter standard. This update allows users to control compatible robot vacuums directly from their Apple devices, such as iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, and HomePods.

Matter is a smart home standard developed through collaboration between major tech companies, including Apple, Google, Amazon, and Samsung. The goal of Matter is to ensure seamless compatibility between devices across different brands and platforms.

Robot Vacuums Getting Matter Support

Leading robot vacuum manufacturers are rolling out updates to enable Matter compatibility, allowing their devices to function within the Apple Home ecosystem. Roborock has confirmed that models such as the S8 MaxV Ultra and Saros Z70 are receiving firmware updates starting April 1st. Similarly, Ecovacs are updating their Deepot X8 Pro and T50 series to support it. Watch out for the review coming soon on the X8 omni Pro with HomeKit support.

What Can You Do with Apple Home and Robot Vacuums?

With this new integration, users can perform essential cleaning functions through the Apple Home app or Siri voice commands. This includes starting and stopping cleaning sessions, sending the vacuum back to its charging dock, and switching between different cleaning modes. However, advanced features such as mapping and customized cleaning zones will still require the use of the manufacturer’s dedicated app.
