Roku has announced Roku OS 9.4 update which will include support for HomeKit and Apple AirPlay 2. This update will be available for its new Roku Ultra and StreamBar along with select RoKu TV models.
The update that will bring HomeKit support to select Roku devices to allow customers to control their device using the Home app and Siri. Users will turn devices on, change inputs and more using an iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, or HomePod. This follows on from HomeKit TV support for
LG TV’s earlier this year.
In addtion the Roku OS 9.4 update will bring AirPlay 2 will give users the ability to stream content directly from your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
While we already have TV’s in HomeKit, this latest development may explain the newly discovered HomeKit categories. The new categories included
Set-top box and
streaming stick, which are a great fit for Roku devices.
Availability of Roku OS 9.4, HomeKit and AirPlay 2
Roku OS 9.4 will be available on compatible Roku players and streamers, including the all-new Roku Ultra and Roku Streambar. The software update will be delivered over the air via a software update over the coming weeks. The company said they expect its Roku TV models to receive the update in phases over the coming months.
