Thread Group Surpasses 1,000 Certified Products

The Thread Group has announced a major milestone this week, confirming that more than 1,000 Thread-certified products and components are now available on the market—spanning everything from consumer smart-home devices to industrial-grade sensor hardware.

The achievement marks a significant step toward the organisation’s long-stated goal of unifying fragmented ecosystems and promoting open standards across the Internet of Things.

Thread’s certification programme, launched in 2019, has grown rapidly thanks to contributions from more than 230 member companies across North and South America, Europe, South Africa, Asia, and Australia. Each certified device undergoes rigorous testing to ensure strong security, reliability, and cross-vendor interoperability, with products bearing the “Built on Thread” badge designed to connect seamlessly right out of the box.

Strong Ecosystem Backing

Support from major players—including Amazon, Apple, Google, and Samsung—has helped propel the protocol’s adoption across a wide range of smart-home categories. Certified devices now include lighting, smart locks, thermostats, border routers, and more, giving consumers greater flexibility in building connected environments tailored to their needs.

The rise of Matter, which relies heavily on Thread for low-power networking, has further accelerated product development and improved interoperability across brands.

Expanding Into Commercial IoT

Thread is also gaining traction in commercial buildings. DALI+, which uses Thread for wireless lighting control, has opened the door to hybrid systems when combined with DALI-2. Earlier this year, the LightFair Innovation Awards named DALI+ one of the most significant advances in lighting and controls in recent years.

The release of the Thread 1.4 specification has unlocked new capabilities such as credential sharing, improved internet connectivity, and secure large-scale commissioning—features aimed at enabling more intelligent, sustainable, and service-oriented commercial environments.

Looking Ahead

With a strong roadmap heading into 2026, the Thread Group says it will continue to cement its position as the mesh network of choice for low-power, battery-operated, and compact IoT devices.
