SwitchBot has announced its new Hub 2 at CES 2023, which will include support for Matter. This will allow SwitchBot’s ecosystem products to work with Matter through the Hub 2, with the first product being the SwitchBot Curtain. This means for the first time, HomeKit users will get official support for SwitchBot products in Apple Home.
The SwitchBot Hub 2 is a smart home hub that uses Matter over Wi-Fi to connect and control SwitchBot products. It allows users to control their Bluetooth devices through Matter on platforms such as Apple Home. The Hub 2 also has a Thermo-hygrometer function that allows users to monitor temperature and humidity levels via the Home App.
SwitchBot Curtain will be the first product that will work with Apple home, once the official launch of the SwitchBot Hub 2 in late February 2023. The SwitchBot Curtain will received an over-the-air (OTA) update to enable support via the Hub 2 when the final certification is completed.
Then later this year, SwitchBot plans to bring support for devices that are supported in the Matter 1.0 standard. This includes the SwitchBot smart lock, However, no specific timeframe has been given for when this support will be available for other devices.
This is exciting news for fans of SwitchBot that use Apple Home and one of them instances when Matter will benefit HomeKit users. I will, of course, be releasing a review of the SwitchBot Hub 2, so don’t forget to check back for when that lands.
