Based on recent reports, it looks like Vocolinc may release a door and window sensor. The VS1 will be Vocolinc’s first HomeKit smart sensor, if this report is to be believed.
First reported by Simon T Bramley who writes for smart home enthusiast website, HomeKit News. They expect the Window and Door contact sensor to feature Bluetooth 5.0. A CR2032 coin battery will power the device with a life span of 6 months. The blog also reports Vocolinc could also announce motion sensor, water leak sensor, temperature and humidity sensor.
As mentioned, this smart device will use Bluetooth 5.0 to communicate. Which is a change for the company, as they normally use Wi-fi. So this could worry some users, as Bluetooth usually attracts criticism because of slow response times. However, Bluetooth 5.0 goes someway to address this issue. That being said, despite criticism over Bluetooth for smart devices. I use several Eve devices such as the Eve Energy and Eve Water Guard Sensor, without issues.
At this stage, Vocolinc has not given a release date or a price. So it is anyone’s guess when the Vocolinc Door and Window sensor will arrive. It is also worth noting that Vocolinc has not formally announced this device, and the blog does not quote a source of this leak. So don’t forget to subscribe to for more HomeKit news.
